Wednesday and Thursday

Washed Out Wednesday 8/13/08

Well it rained all night Tuesday and all day Wednesday. Sam and Bill took a few minutes between torrential downpours and took the kids out into the pool. Then they went back out and fought the waves just for fun. This resulted in them both being stung by jellyfish, which, by the way, Sam later told me was so far his favorite part of the trip…go figure. They were both fine by the way.

We have the Olympics running basically 24 hours a day on the main TV. Currently we are watching Lochte get a gold. Usually we have been watching Michael Phelps but we’ve been wondering, as I’m sure everyone else has been too, why did they show the gymnastics sooooo late!!! Will they re-air it?

Thursday 8/14/08

Today we split in 3 directions! Well, this morning we all got up and went out on the beach. Sam and Bill took the boys out at about 8. Mom, Dad and Gannie snuck out earlier than that. Then Grace and I went down and found her inflated boat there on the beach where the boys had left it. She climbed in and we had breakfast on the beach. Then Mom came up and took her walking down the beach to meet the boys.

Then Sarah, Sam, and I took Grace, Thomas, and Tyler to the Grand Pavilion to make Beach Bunnies Totebags. We paid for 5 bags, so Sam just sat and helped Grace not paint on the table, herself, me, everyone else’s bags, etc. They had these canvas bags with a cute cartoon of “Duney the Loggerhead Turtle” riding a wave runner. We all sat at a big round table under the pavilion, while everyone else sat at long tables in the special crafts area on the other side of the snack bar. It worked out great, because this way Grace could sit in a high-chair and we could all have plenty of space and not sit in the sun. They let us have a big handful of fabric markers. We came away with 5 totally different tote bags. We wrote their names on each of the kids’ bags, as well as the date, which is wrong we realized! They all say ‘8/13/08’ instead of ‘8/14/08’.

Then at Noon:

Team 1) Sarah and MJ went to the Sand and Sea Salon and Spa for a Massage and Pedicure. A MUCH needed break {Thanks to Sam and Bill}

Team 2) Mom, Dad, and Gannie went back into Charleston where they took a horse driven tour of all the old homes. Then they had the amazing luck of having a man, who was moving into a home, built in 1840, ask them if they’d like to come in and look around! So, they got a private tour!

Team 3) {Can you tell we’ve seen too many Olympic games now} Sam and Bill took all 4 Babies to the Swim Center and for Pizza at the Deli and Pizzeria.

Finally, we came home in the late afternoon for our ‘quite-time’ which is grown-up code for ‘naps’. Sam and I slept from 3:15-6:15, the kids slept from about 3-6:40! Mom, Dad, and Gannie came home with even more groceries (our 3rd trip) at about 6:30.

Bill fixed Spaghetti with Meat Sauce for the adults, and Mom fixed left-overs of Green-Beans with Corn, Cheesy Potatoes, Mac-and-Cheese, and then Banana Splits for dessert for everyone.

The little ones are all asleep now, we are all watching the girls’ all around gymnastics, and enjoying some rarely found ‘adults only’ time!

PS- No Sunburns yet! (Sam got a little red today but nothing bad)

Victory in China!

The USA now has TWO Olympic Medalists in the Women’s All Around Gymnastics! They were beautiful and their routines were fantastic! Nastia Liukin won the Gold and Shawn Johnson won the Silver.
