Day 4 - No pictures sorry

So, as you can see from our many pictures, we had a really amazing fun day! Now keep in mind that these are only my pictures, and we split into 3 teams today, so there was a LOT more going on besides visiting the House of Hope (A Pastor and his wife who foster kids) and the School. But, it's all I've got on this end. Now, if you go to the facebook page, you can get everyone's pictures!

The little girls at the House of Hope (plus one William) had so much fun with all the backpacks and toys and clothes everyone sent them. They also really like the pictures the kids sent them. We first went in and they excitedly showed all of us their playground and they played awhile, then we went in and we set up the TV/DVD and got Veggie Tales running (thanks to Courtney who is our technical genius.)

While they watched the show we ran back out and got all the rest of the toys and set them all up in the living room like Christmas Morning. We sat down with them and talked about you all loving them and all of us coming all the way from the United States to see them and etc etc.

Next we gave them their backpacks which you can see from the one picture they loved. They ran around playing with everything for a long time. During this time we gave the Pastor his journal and his wife the Beth Moore Live Free book. Plus the two teenage boys got a Purpose Driven Life (all in Spanish of course) and a How to Play Guitar DVD. Then we showed "Mom" all the clothes and such.

The last thing was the girls sang us some silly songs which was great and we prayed with them all (and secretly cried a lot but they didn't see) and yelled Adios! Te Amo! (Bye I love you).

We left there - a very impoverished neighborhood - and went to an upscale mall. Culture shock city. It was like night and day.

I had a Mocha Frappachino and Sam had some other fancy drink, we shopped and relaxed in air conditioning. Sooooo different than where we had just left. But we needed time to recuperate from the emotions of leaving those sweet kids in that sad little area. Don't get me wrong, the Pastor's house is VERY nice inside, other than the millions of ants in the kitchen, but they had to put up a 12 foot metal fence around the house and yard to keep the kids safe. Just until they walk off to school on their own I guess.

Later we got to take all the backpacks the kids colored in VBS and we filled with toiletries and gifts and candy, to the kids at a school in - if you can believe this - a much worse area of town.

But the kids were just regular kids and they were excited to get out of classwork - all in one room with their desks lined around the walls facing in - to hear us talk and get gifts.

Courtney went through the Evangecube with the kids, and we also had some and flipped the pictures as she talked and it was translated. Then I went through a kids version of the Sinners Prayer, which Jennifer translated line by line then the kids repeated her line by line.

Courtney asked the kids if anyone had prayed that for the first time. I whispered, "Now they all put their hand up." But they didn't! Only 12 kids, mostly older. WOW! 12!!

Last we all ran out on the front porch for a picture and then back in to play with everything in their bags.

They got a kick out of us going around trying to speak spanish terribly and playing with the stuff in their bags.

While the translator was explaining that if boys had received girl toys or vise versa to trade and that they should take the soap and shampoo home to Mom - don't eat it - I was by a very serious looking boy and I picked up his soap bar and said "Uuuhhh Me Gusta! (I like it)" and pretended to take a big bite and that it tasted awful. They giggled like crazy.

Another girl and boy side by side pulled socks out of their bags and held them up by one toe shouting to friends what I assume was "who wants this?" I looked at the socks like I had never seen one before, reached out and put one on each hand and made them start talking to each other in half Spanish half English mostly silly. The kids loved it and suddenly socks wasn't so bad. But mostly they had toys and candy and fun stuff, which of course they loved.

We had enough back packs with us to give one to every child and every adult. Sixty Six! Even a little baby in a Mommy's arms got a bag.

We ran the whole thing like a mini-Vacation Bible School, and they loved it.

Terry DuPont was so impressed with it all that he said, I have toys and stuff for a VBS at home, and you have extra bags. Lets fill them and do this again Friday at another school! GREAT!!!

So we spent a couple hours filling them and they are ready to go!!!

By the way, we found out as we left the House of Hope that William that very cute little 2 yr old and his sister were being picked up today by Mom and Dad! :-)

Well, we are way exhausted and I'm off to each something! Mashed Potatoes and I don't know what else but it smells great and she boiled those potatoes all day. YUM!
